Whew! There are a lot of cobwebs here! But work has been hopping for me lately, something I deeply appreciate as a freelancer and a creative type. At any rate, my Valentine projects will have to wait until next year, but I was reminded of this series of photos I took last year after we hosted a Valentine's Day party.
I love to entertain, but I'm not very good at setting things up and taking beauty shots beforehand, usually because I'm too busy planning the party. During the event, I rarely take photos either. If it's a good party, I'm enjoying it too much to care. So last year's party ended at 3 a.m. and I fell into bed, knowing I'd have to get up at 7 to get my son off to school. Needless to say, there was no cleaning up that night.
But as I returned home in the morning, the light was so pretty in my dining room, bouncing off of the various pieces of glassware scattered here and there. As I surveyed the remnants of a good time, it occurred to me that the aftermath of events sometimes tells the story of what occurred more than the actual event. So I spent some time with my camera, documenting the details. And when I look at them now, I'm reminded of just how much fun we had.
It's not a traditional approach to recording events, but it can be creatively liberating since perfection is not the point. I urge you to try it sometime and see what stories unfold for you.
Thank you, Teresa - I'm here! Sort of, anyway. :)
